Integrating Facebook into Smiley’s Life

Facebook have introduced some new Facebook features for connected sites. Some features look interesting: the “Like Button” and “Recommendations” panel seem handy. So now, I’m working to implement them in Smiley’s Life. However, due to privacy concerns they will be integrated minimally and will be optional:

  • “Like” buttons/links will not show profile pictures or any personally-identifiable info, just a number saying how many people have liked the post. I may enable that feature later, but only for your own friends, meaning the faces it will show will only be your friends’.
  • The “Recommendations” panel will show recommendations based only on the number of times a post was shared on Facebook. It will not name anyone.

I may choose to add an “Activity Feed” plugin in the future but I most likely wont. After all, I don’t want random people to see site-related activities by other random people. If Facebook decide to add a friends-only option to the plugin, I’ll reconsider including it.

That’s it for now. :-)
